Zimbra Postfix or Slapd Delays...

$

I've been getting delays in the WebUI when sending emails, and on occasion getting the following error:

Quote:

"The Server appears to be slow to respond, and may be unavailable Press the button to cancel your request"
It has been working for the longest time without problems until this the last month.

Steps I have taken so far to try to resolve:
1. Performance Tuning: Performance Tuning Guidelines for Large Deployments - Zimbra :: Wiki
2. Migrated to a faster server with more memory (24GB).
3. Upgraded to the Zimbra 7.2.1 (delayed upgrading to 8.0 until I figure out this current problem.)

CPU Load has gone down considerably after upgrades, but the time delay when sending emails still persists. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The following is the output from logs as soon as I send the message:

Strange file changes after Zimbra installation...

$

Our tripwire caught this with my test VM (vSphere), so I tried again on a local VirtualBox VM I created specifically for this, and it happened again...

The Zimbra installation seems to cause lots of content changes in files completely unrelated to Zimbra. Has anyone seen this, or might know why it happens? Could there be something in RHEL 6/CentOS 6 (I've tried on both) that might do this "behind the scenes"? This seems unlikely, since tripwire hasn't done this before. While some of these files one would expect to be changed, the vast majority should not IMO. The list is ONLY files with differing MD5 checksums--not new or absent files. I simply did a find+md5sum before and after installing Zimbra. Below is ONLY the /bin files, but one only really needs the first ~5 lines to become concerned, I think. Attached is the complete list.

DKIM on Ver 7.2.1?

$

Hi,

I have Zimbra 7.2.1 running on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, and I would like to implement DKIM, because I'm under the impression that it would improve the deliverability of my email. Version 8.0 has this readily available, from what I understand. But, is it possible to implement DKIM on 7.2.1, even, if need be, using some third party software?

I would be willing to upgrade to Version 8, but that appears to mean that I would have to go to 64-bit, and that would mean buying new hardware, if I understand it correctly, which I can't afford to do at the moment.

Relay per Domain not working after upgrade to 8.0.0 OSE

$

Hi,
here's basic info and problem:

Zimbra: Release 8.0.0.GA.5434.UBUNTU12.64 UBUNTU12_64 FOSS edition.

Upgrade history:
7.1.3_GA_3346.UBUNTU10_64
7.2.0_GA_2669.UBUNTU10_64
UBUNTU10_64 -> UBUNTU12.64
8.0.0.GA.5434.UBUNTU12.64

Corporational network architecture. Zimbra is used as local (LAN) workgroup system and mail with localdomain (nor registered or visible in Internet) and mail traffic (SMNP/POP/IMAP) is not allowed outside corporate network.
Beside that there are 10 mail shared accounts (like department accounts) in external domain hosted in remote server in WAN, but still not in Internet. Mail traffic from this server is allowed in/out corporate network.
This external domain is reflected in Zimbra and mails from remote server are fetched and delivered in Zimbra to corresponding local accounts. This way using external accounts is easier for users - it is the same as local account.
Local accounts in external domain are shared and users with rights to use it have created persona to send emails to the outside world. This accounts have main transport defined in settings as smtp:externalserver.com:25 (externalserver.com IP:y.y.y.y). In Zimbra 8 they are granted sendAs right.
Only problem was relying mails from local copies of external accounts through remote server. It was solved per Relay per Domain - Zimbra :: Wiki

Problem
After upgrade to 8.0.0 relaying per domain stopped working. Of course changes to Postfix configuration were reapplied after Zimbra upgrade.
Investigation showed that after changes introduced/related to zimbraAllowFromAddress/sendOnBehalfOf/sendAs

BUG67091 - Support creating persona for addresses for which user has been granted sendAs/sendOnBehalfOf rights
BUG66387 - zimbraAllowFromAddress pref should exclude internal accounts

all mails at postfix level are seen as sent by local user (even mails sent from external domain and mails sent with external account

Question
Is there a workaround to the problem? Any suggestions? Is this a bug that should be reported? Any help appreciated.

Administrator Console

Hi Folks,

I have installed the open source edition of ZCS and I see hints of an administrator's console in the manuals. The console is a web application that listens on port 7017 apparently. My netstat -nl shows me that I have no such listener. How to I fire this thing up?

Thanks for the help,

Chris.

Multiple Domains

Hi Folks,

Is there a manual that can guide me through the configuration for multiple domains? I have one domain that is a production domain, so I can't disrupt it for testing, but I have a second domain which is experimental, so I have complete liberty. When I answered the installation configuration questions, I answered everything as though I were going to immediately deploy to the production domain, so I need to know how to introduce the second domain.

Thanks for the help,

Chris.

Hi

I am new to Ubuntu (although understand the principles of command lines and changing accounts).

Installed Zimbra 8 (on 2 difference machines), however have an error:

Admin Console, log in as the admin account (as set up in the install) go to:

Monitor > Mail Queues

I get the enclosed error.

I notice the postfix and zimbra accounts installed in Ubuntu after the install where disabled, they might also have a password set now (after i played around with them).

Ideas please on how to debug this problem... I will add the services all have green ticks next to them.

Separate Server for Archiving?

Is it possible to create a separate Zimbra server just to handle archiving?
The purpose of doing this is to enhance security so that administrators who have access to the main Zimbra server cannot access the archive Zimbra server etc.
This is also for backup in case the main Zimbra server breakdown, we can still access the archived emails on the archive Zimbra server.

zimbra 8.0.1 Open Source on Linode using 1.3GB mem now, further reduce memory use?

For the Zimbra 8.0.1 I have running off my personal Linode Ubuntu 12 LTS instance, I have disabled some services to pull to down to a total of 1.3GB used (and eats up half of the 512MB swap). I know there are docs on minimizing memory usage but those were written for previous versions. I wonder if anyone has any updated tweaks/tips on what to set for this particular major release. Use case is just for one very importan power user... me!

I've disabled:

* all POP
* snmp
* antispam
* antivirus
* spellchecker
* logger

Can I get it under 1GB? At one point I was about to do this for v6 so that I can cram my Confluence wiki onto the same instance.

I can spend some time tweaking the changes, but figure I can save some time by asking around. If needed I can puppetize the set of config changes and post them back if anyone would be interested.

(Hmm I should have posted this into "administration" )

Thanks.

I have used Zimbra for a long time, I would have thought installing would have become easier as time went on.... I now see an error that will not even let me begin the install...I cannot use the FQN at the moment because I am migrating from version 7 on a whole new platform......so now what?

Hello All,

I have a client who is willing to come over to Zimbra zcs NE ver.8, But he asked me a very important question.

He wants me to provide third party Antivirus solution with Zimbra.

I know zimbra provides a very efficient inbuilt anti spam and antivirus, and i tried to convince him for it, But he does not bend.

Hence i now need to prove to him, that this can be done, But the question is HOW ?

Can any one send me a -"How To" on this issue ?

Thank you all for your understanding and your time.

What should I do if I get a case like this ..

A is the head office, there are already domain and mail server but not using zimbra mail,
B is a branch office, and has not had a mail server, currently using a central server in office A,

if I install zimbra mail it should be the same whether his or her domain name must be different? because I want to keep the same domain as long as we use the same domain name, and whether the names of user B's in A should be in the clear and migrate to B. or is there another way

and if I want to create a mail server in the branch B using zimbra, what should I do to mail communications in local B to A should not be used, unless there is some sort mail from external domains from yahoo or google,.

requested by the very explanation ..

regards

Hi,

I'm installing and evaluating Zimbra 8.0.1 NE on RHEL 6.2. After setting up the requirements, I ran install.sh then I saw an error from the zmsetup.log saying that I can't connect to LDAP.

Here's the entry from zmsetup.log:

So I looked at the listening ports using netstat -plunt and got this:

Code:

[root@zcs8 ~]# netstat -plunt

Nothing is listening on port 389. So probably that's why the connection was refused.

I'm not sure why is this happening. Hope you guys can shed a light on this.

Thanks in advance! :)
