Status error on Zimbra v.8

8.0.0 Main.cf not persistent after postfix reload

$

I used the Outgoing SMTP Authentication wiki to configure my 7.1 Zimbra to use smtp.yahoo.com, and it would continue to work after restarts. I have since upgraded to 8.0.0 and I followed the same wiki, because the changes are not cross upgrade persistent, but now the changes won't stay after doing the postfix reload step.

Should I be configuring this a different way?

Cannot send mail after upgrade from 7.2.1. to 8 (ose)

Hi All,

=====
I kind of solved the problem below by:

- unchecking the milter server in the MTA settings pages in the admin console.
- removing the milter server name (was pointing to my own mailserver name.
- restarting. I can send mail again.

Then I experimented a bit:

- rechecking the milter server and restarting zimbra: I can still send mail.
- setting the milter server name to "localhost" and restarting: Still able to send mail.
- setting the milter server name to my email server fqdn hostname: Not able to send mail.
- setting the milter server name back to localhost: Can send mail again!

So it seems that using my fqdn server name is the source of the problem. I am still not shure of why this can be.

=====

A few days ago I upgraded my Zimbra 7.2.1. Open Source Edition to Zimbra 8 (O.S.E.). Zimbra is running on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
I had no problems whatsoever with running 7.2.1.

I'm not running split DNS, but I do use a relay host for all outbound emails using smtp authentication. I did a renewed setup of that after the upgrade to zimbra 8.

Since the upgrade I cannot send email. Receiving works ok. After some searching in the mail.log file I found the following error:

Sep 18 20:23:14 email postfix/smtpd[13609]: connect from email.xxxxxxxx.xx[999.999.999.999]
Sep 18 20:23:14 email postfix/smtpd[13609]: warning: connect to Milter service inet:localhost:8465: Connection refused
Sep 18 20:23:14 email postfix/smtpd[13609]: NOQUEUE: milter-reject: CONNECT from email.xxxxxxxx.xx[999.999.999.999]: 451 4.7.1 Service unavailable - try again later; proto=SMTP
Sep 18 20:23:14 email postfix/smtpd[13609]: NOQUEUE: milter-reject: EHLO from email.xxxxxxxx.xx[999.999.999.999]: 451 4.7.1 Service unavailable - try again later; proto=SMTP helo=
Sep 18 20:23:14 email postfix/smtpd[13609]: NOQUEUE: milter-reject: MAIL from email.xxxxxxxx.xx[999.999.999.999]: 451 4.7.1 Service unavailable - try again later; from= proto=ESMTP helo=
Sep 18 20:23:14 email postfix/smtpd[13609]: disconnect from email.xxxxxxxx.xx[999.999.999.999]

What struck me was that the milter service seems to be listening on port 8465. In my mta-settings on the admin console the bind port is 7026. The milter server checkbox is checked. Furthermore I found out that an opendkim process is listening to 8465. To be honest, I had no idea what that opendkim does or why I need it. But it seems to be conflicting with the milter settings in the admin console.

I have tried the following:

- unchecking the milter server checkbox and restarting zimbra. No effect.
- Changing the milter server bind address to 8465, with the milter server checkbox on and off. No effect.

The milter service is running (checked with zmmilterctl status).

So now I am at a loss. Are there any setting that I have missed? Are there any changes I should make? Help is most welcome!

Kind regards,

Henry

Single Node installation does not succeed

I am using ESX 5.0 with the appliance version 8.0.1116 and cannot get the single node installation to succeed. We do have a firewall and a split-dns will be necessary. However, I have read many posts and can't determine if the zimbra server's ip should be dynamic or static. I know that the command /opt/vmware/share/vami_config_net should be run. When I set it to static, I get the error message "Did not find a matching DNS A record...". When I set it to dynamic, I have internet access, but get the same error message. Also, rebooting the vm does not keep the network settings. The Split-dns procedure starts out with installing bind9, which does not exist anymore and says to use dnsutils. When I do apt-get install dnsutils, it says it is the latest version. Executing dnsutils says it does not exist. The command which dnsutils returns nothing.

Executing command apt-get install dnsmasq returns "Couldn't find dnsmasq". I am able to get to the internet since I can ping google.

Zimbra 8 Disk Usage

I'm planning to build new VM's to host our zimbra deployment with 8.0, and I'm wondering if anything major has changed regarding the way zimbra uses disk space in 8.0? The documentation suggests that 10GB is plenty for everything but the message store, but that's not been my experience at all in the past. My current disk use looks something like this:

Size Full Free Use
20G 7.6G 13G 39% /opt/zimbra
40G 14G 27G 35% /opt/zimbra/log
10G 2.3G 7.8G 23% /opt/zimbra/logger
10G 5.9G 4.2G 59% /opt/zimbra/redolog
100G 70G 30G 71% /opt/zimbra/index
50G 31G 20G 61% /opt/zimbra/db
1.1T 912G 186G 84% /opt/zimbra/store

I've had to carve /opt/zimbra/log and /opt/zimbra/redolog into their own partitions because they kept overflowing and corrupting the ldap database (redolog still overflows regularly at 10GB). I believe index and db being on separate partitions were previously recommended best practices. Ultimately, I just need to know if disk usage in 8.0 is consistent with 7.x (and good luck to any sucker who puts everything on a single 10GB /opt/zimbra partition!) or if there's been some tweaking to make disk management a bit more sane. I have about 10000 mailboxes if that helps provide insight.

Thanks!

Multi-server specs

We are going to do a multi-server test environment and wanted to know from community experience what servers should be the most "powerful" and which server can be on the lighter end.

For this we want to setup the following:

1x LDAP
1x Mailstore
1x MTA
1x proxy
1x archiving

Once this is proven to work we are going to want to add additional LDAP, Mailstore and MTA servers. Once tested to work this will be deployed rather quickly and on a large scale to host email for our clients. So it must have scalability in mind.

We have the following machines available for test and will purchase similar server grade systems for deployment.

1x 8 core (upto 16gb of memory)
2x 4 core (upto 8gb of memory)
2x 2 core (upto 8gb of memory)

Also, from community experience is Linux soft-raid an acceptable solution?

Multi-server and Commercial cert

I have set up a test environment of a multi-server Zimbra, looking like this:

Zimbra 8.0.0/Open Source, CentOS 6.3

1 x LDAP
2 x MTA/Proxy
2 x Mail store

One DNS-alias resolving to the two ip-adresses of the MTA/Proxy-machines (ie DNS round-robin). The name is mail.example.com and this name is to be used by end-users.

Everything was working as expected until I tried to install a Commercial Certificate...

I followed this wiki: Administration Console and CLI Certificate Tools - Zimbra :: Wiki
(and my own notes of previous, successful installations in 7.x/NE/single-server).

The wiki do not show the procedure for Multi-server + Commercial cert but I did like this:

Code:

# /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr createcsr comm -new -keysize 2048 -subject '/C=COM/ST=Example/L=Someware/O=Some Site/OU=IT/CN=mail.example.com' -subjectAltNames 'z-ldap1.example.com, z-gw.1.exampl.com, ...' (all server names as AltNames)

# openssl req -noout -text -in /opt/zimbra/ssl/zimbra/commercial/commercial.csr (Looking good. Got it signed.)
# /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr verifycrt comm /opt/zimbra/ssl/zimbra/commercial/commercial.key /root/SSL/cert.crt /root/SSL/chain.crt (Looking good. After signing.)

# /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr deploycrt comm /root/SSL/mail.example.com.crt /root/SSL/chain.crt -allserver

The last step started the installation on all machines in the system, but failed big time... se below:

Did I guess wrong on how to do this for multi-server + comm cert?

I ran this on one of the mail-stores (the wiki do not specify this). Was this correct?

Output:
Code:

# /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr deploycrt comm /root/SSL/mail.example.com.crt /root/SSL/chain.crt -allserver

We are using Zimbra opensource edition for last few years. Some times, we have some server hardware issues or other file system crass issues comes in, In that time we face lot difficulties to restore the mails to the new server and it took nearly a week to comfort with new server.

My Question, How can we setup a secondary Mail Server for our zimbra server. We need to update secondary server every end of the day or some period. So If the primary server down, Users should be automatically able to redirect or pull the mailboxes from secondary server without any delay.

Kindly advice us to do this secondary setup using zimbra ?

Thanks in advance !!!!!!

Hi, I am planning to install the Zimbra OSE v8 on a godaddy virtual dedicated server running Centos 6.

I am completely new to this. After some searches I found this link :Zimbra Collaboration Suite Open Source Edition On CentOS | HowtoForge - Linux Howtos and Tutorials

Has anyone done this on a godaddy server?

Do I need to do anything differently from the guide on howtoforge.com?

Are there any special issues that I need to think about?

Is there any othere guide?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Install on Plesk 10 Host

Hello Community,

I'm all new to Zimbra and want to use it.
I've got a rent VPS Ubuntu 10 with Plesk.

Now I want to install Zimbra, downloaded it to my server.

The installer claims about the installed package "psa-qmail", which is the Plesk QMail Package.
If I want to remove this package, all Pleskpackages are going to be removed.

I just read a post with following answer: "You can't remove QMail if you want to keep Plesk".
But there is no answer how i fix this collidation.
I found articles with title "Installing ZCS on Plesk".
But they are not talking about any package problems.

So, can anybody help me ?
What can I do to install Zimbra on my Plesk Server ?

Hi Guys,

I've been looking around and can find nothing on how to upgrade.

What are the requirements that need to be met? Do I need to go to 7.2 beforehand?

How (if possible ) can I rollback should things go wrong?

As this is a production environment I am very hesitant to move forward without a basic idea of where its going!

Any help would be appreaciated!

Thanks!

Could we install ZCS Network Edition and Open Source Edition on the same server (not virtualization) ?
We want to deploy ZCS NE for certain users and the rest use ZCS OSE.
The ZCS OSE will use default lan dan folder /opt/zimbra.
The ZCS NE will use vlan and separate folder /opt/zimbra-ne.

Any suggestion ?

Thanks in advance.
